Working with you to createSuccess through compliance
The Construction Sector is one of the most diverse of all and includes many of the others that we support at Alpha Swanson. It is highly regulated and requires numerous and specialist disciplines to ensure the final product is safe to operate and
maintain. Many projects will also be subject to the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM). Quality of product and services along with Environmental and Health and Safety compliance is key to success and many clients expect their construction partners to have these imbedded and are increasingly looking for some or all of the following: ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO27001 and ISO45001 as part of their selection and award process.
Construction – What We do
We help companies in the construction sector to achieve their desired UKAS accredited certificated ISO standard or Integrated Management System (IMS). We can also work with companies who may not be quite ready for ISO to achieve an applicable SSIP Scheme such as CHAS, SMAS or Safe Contractor to name a few or assist with PAS91 PQQ’s.
Construction – Initial Discussions
We will discuss with you your objectives and reasoning for looking at ISO or SSIP. We will explain the process of implementing a Quality, Environmental, Data Security and Health and Safety management standard, either individually or as part of a combined Integrated Management System (IMS).
We will go into detail about what we will do and most importantly what you will be required to do to build the system and how maintain it.
Quality, Environmental, Safety and Health (QESH) are important subjects in every sector but the construction industry has its own unique risks and challenges. Depending on the exact nature of your business, you will have to consider some or all the following:
Risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
Staff training, site safety and site security
Provision of adequate protective clothing and equipment
Trade specific licences and memberships
Third-party suppliers and sub-contractors
Accident and incident management
Waste management and disposal
Working at heights
Quality of materials
Management of hazardous substances, including asbestos and COSHH
Site handover/project sign-off
Data management and protection, including GDPR
Effective health and safety management is of paramount importance in the construction industry. Ensuring the quality of materials, equipment and processes is also a vital component, and the need to be environmentally conscientious is a must in every sector. Your employees and customers will have more confidence in you if you demonstrate that you have robust systems in place for managing your QESH impact.
A management system can formalise your processes, organise your documentation and streamline your operations. This makes it easier for you to manage your business efficiently and ensure you are complying with relevant legislation and regulations, particularly CDM. An Integrated Management System (IMS) is considered the ultimate in management systems as it brings all policies, procedures and documentation together into one place.
An effective management system is a key component of achieving UKAS accredited ISO certifications such as ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001. UKAS accredited certifications are recognised globally and prove that your business operates in line with international standards.
